This is the 2018 Perth Mint Year of the Dog 2 oz silver coin. This beautiful coin contains two ounces of fine silver. Each year, Perth Mint issue these coins to celebrate The Lunar Calendar, so each year features the respective animal from the cycle of twelve.
Designed by Perth Mint artist Ing Ing Jong, the coin features a German Shepherd lying in the grass beside a playful puppy.
To the left of the design are Chinese peony flowers and the Chinese character for ‘dog’. The peony, often considered the unofficial national flower of China, symbolises spring, feminine beauty, and fertility.
It is also associated with wealth, honour, and high social status, and is a popular choice for 12th wedding anniversary celebrations. Below the central image, the inscription ‘Year of the Dog’ is displayed, while the Perth Mint’s mintmark appears on the right.
